I was walking down that
path tonight;
Our "Memory
Lane" where we used to go out.
Suddenly, it was no longer
the white streetlights
And a blithe spring
evening glow came about!
Two juveniles I saw, you
and me
Walking on the grass in childlike
grace,
The lad knelt down, and
kissed her hands
And stood up, engulfing
her in their first embrace.
The field dissolved into
an autumn evening.
You inched your little
finger, hooking it onto mine
And a balmy kiss on my
cheek you bestowed
That swept me off my feet,
right onto Cloud Nine!
The evening faded into a
starry, winter night;
And there you were,
pulling me in haste
For a passionate goodbye
kiss in the moonlit woods,
Not letting any moment of
solitude go waste.
I held out my hand for
you, in anticipation
When the spell of the
magical past broke!
The streetlights were
back, and you weren't next to me
My heart grew heavy with
lovelorn yoke.
Tentatively, I looked back
to trace you there
Darkness was all I saw,
like the sight of the blind
And with the sigh and
misty eyes, I walked away
Leaving those mellifluous
memories, far behind....
